Research Labs

To give ourselves the freedom to experiment with new features, we've introduced Research Labs inside mymind. With Research Labs, Mastermind members can toggle on beta features to test out before they're released..
Note: Research Lab features are in testing only and not guaranteed to ship as an official feature. They may change or disappear at any time. Oh, and please send us feedback!
Activating Research Lab features
Mobile (v4+ only)
Mastermind members can turn on Research Lab features by opening the sidebar in the iOS app and scrolling down to the Research Labs button. Toggle on any in-development features you'd like.
- Beautify products: Adds button on product cards to magically clean up the image
- Same Vibe Ext.: Adds Same Vibe option to text based cards. Notes, Quotes, Highlights
- Sort Checked Items: Ticking an item off a checklist moves it to the bottom of the list, the way Apple Notes does.
- Return makes a new line: In a note, Return breaks the line without starting a new paragraph. Shift-Return starts the new paragraph instead. Lists and code blocks are unchanged.
- Audio files: Lets you choose and upload audio files — mp3, m4a, wav, aac, aiff, flac and ogg — and play them from the card or the detail.
- Cards gather dust: Cards you haven't opened in over a year slowly gather dust in the grid, so you can see what's aging. Cosmetic only — nothing is changed or moved.
- Spotlight: Makes your cards searchable from Spotlight on this device, and opens the card you tap. Spotlight gets each card's title, summary, tags, Mind Note and any text read from its image. Private cards are left out. Switching it off removes them from Spotlight.
- Tidy Up: Delete/merge duplicate tags
Desktop
Open your account settings and scroll to the bottom, then toggle Research Labs. Research Labs desktop previously included Vibe Search, and will eventually support more beta features, such as the ones on iOS v4+.
Notes from the team
Tobias van Schneider:
Shipping new product features is fairly easy. But shipping the right ones, maintaining and potentially killing them is the hard part, especially as a small team. The long view has always been important to us which is why we're careful with shipping new things too quickly. But to give ourselves a little more freedom, we're introducing the "Research Lab" toggle inside mymind. Flip it on and you'll find features that aren't finished, that are still figuring out what they are. Rougher than what you're used to from us. Beta in the real sense, not the marketing sense. If you're feeling adventurous, go ahead. (:
