What's with the new quote cards?

You may have noticed that the quote cards are looking different recently. The team is currently overhauling quotes to make them look and read nicer in your mind. Here's what's new and some tips for how to best save quotes to your mind.

Note: This feature is in active development and may change before release.

How quotes work

When you save text to your mind, either by highlighting some text online and right-clicking it to save it with our browser extension, or by simply typing it into a new note in your mind, mymind usually saves it as a normal note card. However, if you surround the text with quotation marks, mymind will recognize the text as a quote and save it as quote card instead of a note card.

Attributions

With the newest update to quotes, there is one exception to the "surround with quotation marks" rule: you can now include attributions with the quote. Attributions are separate from titles; they will appear below your quote when you open the card.

mymind will intelligently detect if there is an attribution included with your quote, as long as it is:

  1. Located outside the quotation marks
  2. Preceded by a dash

For example, saving the text "All that you touch, you change." - Clarrisa Tossin will result in the text within quotes being saved as the quote, and the attribution "Clarrisa Tossin" will be saved in the attribution field.

Note that there is no need to include "by" before the attribution, as "by" is added in automatically by mymind in your quote card.

Why can't I edit my quote?

At the moment we do not support editing the quotation. However, this feature is still under development and things could change. mymind will support editing the attribution in the future, and the team is exploring other possible improvements as well. For example, mymind may eventually add an author to your quote even if one isn't included when saved.
