Using the API and MCP
At long last, we now have our very own Mind Extensions (API and MCPs). We're excited for all the new possibilities for how you can use mymind. You can now build your own tools around your mind: private integrations, automated workflows, or connecting your mind to AI agents you already use.
You can find all the information here: access.mymind.com/extensions. This page is also linked in your account settings.
Note: Our API is entirely optional. Your mind is private by default, and you never need to touch the API unless you want to.
What you can do with it
- Build a private integration between mymind and another tool you use.
- Automate a workflow, like generating yourself a weekly digest of everything you saved.
- Import your bookmarks from another tool into mymind (Note that this is the only sort of bulk-import tool we have).
- Pull your own data out to visualize it however you like. Leverage LLMs like ChatGPT or Claude to inspect and analyze your saves for you.
Creating an API key
When you create a key, you'll choose one of two permission levels:
| Permission | What it can do |
|---|---|
| Read only | Can see your saved cards, but can't change or delete anything. |
| Full access | Can read, create, edit, and delete cards in your mind. |
Depending on where you're going to use the key, make sure to select the permission that makes the most sense.
Creating multiple keys for multiple use cases is ideal. Be careful with giving a Full access key to an app/service/agent that might mess with your mind as it may result in data loss (for example, if you give rogue agents Full Access, they may modify or delete things by accident).
Note: We're currently working on more granular access controls, so you can only give access to certain parts of your mind.
Using the MCP
MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets AI agents and assistants connect to your mind directly, using the same API underneath. If you use an AI tool that supports MCP, you can point it at your mind and let it search, read, or (if you grant Full access) add to your saved cards.
We currently support:
- Claude
- ChatGPT
- Poke
- Hermes
- Other local agents
Remember! This is a beta
The API is still very new. We're still sanding off some rough edges here and there, and expect more permission controls to show up over time.
